Hello again, Denizens of The Samba.
Those who have read my other threads calling for help, thanks for helping.
I have a NEW problem (will they ever end?). I found a battery isolator (finally!), and I wired it in (it works!). That is NOT the problem.

Ok, so after I got the isolator installed, I tried to figure out the rest of it (I want to put my accessories on the second battery, like GW promised with their kit). I have a '90 Diesel tin top. Under the seat, I have the Westy relay:

Only, these wires are not for the fridge and sink. They run up the front, to the rats nest under the dash:

As you can see, one splits off to the YELLOW connector, and the other goes here:

Anyone know what these are for? (Keep in mind, this van used to be a Bundeswehr MP van!)
I have found a surplus of wires that I'm not sure are all stock. For example, THIS guy (black w/ yellow connector) is one of TWO like it:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

THIS random connector has power to the black w/ blue (left) only when the key is on:

If you can see it here, there is a long solid black wire with a white connector, not attached to anything....

The second black/ yellow with yellow connector:

Theres more, but I had to get back to the work I was already doing.
If anyone could help me make sense of this (mainly I need help with the relay and two wires), I would think highly of them for days and weeks to come...
Cheers!
Nico

This so familar!
First off - What accessories do you have?
That is to say stack VW options like Power windows, Seat Heaters, A/C or a Front Diff-Lock.

Then, did the previous owner add there own accessories?

I forget if you have a Bentley to look at wiring schematics?
While they are very helpful there is some head scratching too because some of the schematics do not look like what your looking at in real life.

Do you have available to you a product called "Spiral Wrap"? It is a plastic cover that is used to protect and organize wires.
It wraps around a bundle of wires to hold them together and also provides some protection to the wires.
The Spiral Wrap can help organize the small bundles of wires that go to different switches.

Take a look at my thread and you can see where I've used it on the wire harness under the dash.

It is pretty standard for VW to use the yellow plastic cover on wire ends that are for optional use. The black/yellow wire is for expansion of the "X" circuit and option harnesses that plug into it have their own black/yellow pigtail so yet another option can use it.

That makes sense!

None. All my 'powered' options are made by 'Armstrong'. This was a German Military Police van. It's whole life.
Yes, it has two knobs, but that's air (vac) actuated. I have a couple of holes with labels on them (random, 3 letters only), and some random unplugged wires.
A few years ago, when I did the brake booster upgrade, I pulled out a bunch of chopped wires. I guess when they removed the lights, radios, switches and sirens, they just cut the devices out and left the rest!
I tried to organize it as best I could, but time was a factor. I pulled all the loose wires and tucked the rest in.
I have one inside light in the front, and one in the back, stock. No frills here!

I'm having a hard time finding consistency between the book and the wiring......

I know what you mean, might be the same.
A lot of the wires are in bundles, and some even have a yellow band with a number on them.
But I have no idea what the numbers match up to. Nothing I can find in the Bentley, anyway.

This might help in understanding the "G" bus.

G1 & G3- X-bus load-controlled power (hot when ign. on, goes cold when starter operates) via S12
G2 & G5- #15 ignition-switched power via S18
G4- D+ (alternator trigger circuit) via alternator warning LED
G6-dead end
G7 -headlights power
G8 -dimmer-controlled panel lighting power
G9 -parking lights power via S20
G10- hot when windshield washer pump runs

And it looks like the Blue wire comes from G2.
Any idea what the RED YELLOW bus is?

Looks like C18?

So, I found this yesterday:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It looks to be a relay, with a 50A strip fuse on it. I don't remember this in Domo.
Can anyone identify this relay for me?

Anyway, Yesterday I finished the van. He is ready to head off the Croatia on Sunday!

After doing the GW inspired wire hack, I discovered that the promise and the reality were not the same.
The GW hack moves the radio and cigarette socket to the AUX battery. That's it.

So, I whipped out the Multimeter, and did some hacking of my own.
In the Drivers interior light, power comes in, and goes out. So, I cut the outgoing wire and capped it.
I went down to the other end, and wired it into my new fuse block.
NOW all the accessories are on the house battery.
I have the Terrapod DRLs wired to the 'on with key' wires someone identified for me, with a toggle switch (so I can switch them on and off!).

I'm still curious what my two wires (from the under seat relay) powers.
One wire shows 1.34 mV, and the other gives 12.4V with the motor running.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the advice! My van is much better now for it!

That relay with the fuse strip is for the high speed radiator fan here in the USA,

You must have VW's "factory" A/C?

As did all NON Air Conditioned vehicles of that era. A/C equipped units got a three speed fan, resistor behind the left headlight and that relay pictured.

Glad it worked out. I've learned a few things here.
I'm doing something similar next. Which wire did you move? Picture?

Black/yellow is where power windows draw from on models that have them. The whole rat's nest is pretty standard VW behavior.
Have fun in Croatia. Balkan is my favorite place in the whole world. Hope to go touring there some day.
