Hey all,
Just picked up a cheap harbor freight oil pressure tester. Ive never had a gauge and have never had OP problems, just curious where Im at. Heres the low down
2.1 180k
Top end rebuild 20k ago
20/50 wt oil
Mann filter
Warmed up for 30 minutes in 95 degree weather. Using an ir gun at sump oil temp is 185 ish
Idle 9-10 psi
2000 rpm is 24 psi
3000 rpm is 45 psi
Seems good right? Was thinking of adding a van cafe oil pressure releif spring to help bump it up a few psi. Whats says all you? |

Have been, lots! We usually do about 11k miles a summer. Curious what my numbers look like after several hours loaded and up passes. Never had a op light or buzzer so Ive never been concerned but closing in on 200k in a year or two wanted to know where I stand. |

Those numbers are much better than I ever saw on my 2.1 with 130k miles on a rebuilt motor. I had an oil pressure gauge and it read 5-7 psi at idle; 24-26 psi at 3,000 rpm on flat highways and 18 psi at 3,000 rpm running up passes on hot days. I swapped the 2.1 for a Bostig at that point.
45 psi at 3,000 rpm on a hot motor is rock-solid. Adding an oil pressure gauge will give you a running diagnostic, or you can just test it every year. It all depends on how you like to monitor the health of your van.
If all else checks out (compression test, cooling system pressure test, etc.) then drive it and be happy that you've got a healthy van.
Enjoy! _________________ - Jim
