I built my own Abarth style 4-tip muffler from a NOS German Ernst muffler. I cut it open with a plasma, gutted the baffles, shaped a new filler panel, and welded four 1.25" tips in place. I still need to finish relocating the driver side pre-heat tube and paint it. Total cost was $40 for the muffler and $64.29 for the pre-polished stainless tubing from McMaster-Carr.

Short video of it idling and revving.
Engine specs are:
Original '63 block, CB Performance 69mm forged race crank, narrowed 40hp rods, AA Performance coated 83mm P&C's, Engle FK-41 cam on 112 LC, CB Performance Pro-Series straight cut gears, ported and shaved '65 square rocker stand heads, 9.6:1 compression, CB solid rocker shafts with 1:1 1600 rockers, and a homemade 4 tip exhaust. I will convert it to dual carbs as soon as I find a set.

Very cool. How were the pipes attached? I don't see any welds. |
Thanks! They're welded on, was in a hurry to finish it last night and didn't take any pics. _________________ Strive for perfection in everything. Take the best that exist and make it better. If it doesn't exist, create it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough."

Love it! Us 40hp people are really left out of the Abarth game. All the best reproductions are for the 36hp or the 1300 and up. _________________ '63 Turkis beetle convertible '64 Turkis Caravelle camper '64 1500s sunroof Pearl Weis |
