At October 3th 2015 I bought a Finnish T1 panel in north Germany and at October 10th I started the project in the Netherlands, were I live.
Without any experience of car restorations I learned a lot by reading a lot of topics and studying hundreds of pictures, also on this site. Thank you all for that! Very Happy
I also did a welding course of a day and the rest I learned myself. Laughing
Most of the floor and chassis framework had to be renewed and also the lower 20 to 30 cm edge all around the bus.
I think the bus was used in the mud, because there was a lot of sand in the floor beams!
In Finland there where holes made by a company called Wiima, to create windows in the panel, but of course the glass doesn't fit well in the curved sheet metal. So during the restoration proces I bought original window parts from a 13 window bus, enough to create a 11 window bus.
I also found a nearly complete Dormobile roof in Italy, so I will fit this on the bus also. I only had to make the framework around the hole in the roof myself.
After all the welding the bus had been blasted completely to remove all the dirt, paint and rust and after that put into pure zinc and also a layer of zinc epoxy.
The rear suspension will be from a Bay Window bus with reworked Beetle gear box and new built 1775 CC engine.
The front brakes will be disc brakes with power brake booster.
I try to renew as many parts as possible, but some parts are very hard to find, like the 12 Volt wiper motor.
All the locks I found are NOS and also many other parts like relais and switches.
Also the wire loom will be new like the other electrical parts.
My planning is to create an own camper interior, but I'm no so far yet. Wink
It has been painted now and I am fitting the electrical wires at this moment.
Here is my first post on this site:

Here are some pictures and also a link to a site with a lot more pictures of the restoration.

Just get a 6 volt 1966 wiper motor and install an electronic adjustable voltage drop. Set voltage drop for about 7.2 volts so you get most from the wipers.

very nice job- if you cut out a small triangular notch on the bottom of the wood panel on the inside of your rear hatch you can open it from the inside. That is the way they set them up on SO42's Smile

Do you need some additional hardware like button? Or just stick your hand in the lock mechanism and push something?

That shot kinda reminds me a little of that scene in the movie "Twister" where Bill Pullman and Helen Hunt try to find shelter inside a farm barn as a tornado approached them...

Interesting question!

Nothing extra is needed. There's a latch mechanism/tab operable with one finger. Not sure if all models are the same but on your bus it should have the tab in the center of the open area (with the small hole in it)...

This pic was in the gallery - showing the rounded notch matching the arch of the latch opening. I had to do the same to my camper panel.

I put the bus on some wood and special tiles to be able to go underneath it in a relaxed way.
The coupling of the gear box won't loose its locking bolts, that's for sure.

You need to set up the safety wire so it pulls in such a way as to keep each bolt tight. Note the "S" kind of pattern from bolt head to bolt head.

Are those hex bolts you used pointed at the tip?

I appreciate the tip, but the question is are the bolts able to rotate?
The question is no, and that is the goal. Wink
During my motorcycle racing period (more than ten years on the tracks) I have secured hundred time or more and never lost something.

Yes I made points at the tips of the stainless steel bolts, otherwise they wouldn't fit good enough in the holes.
