Was driving back to our campground last night an we began to here a "clacking" sound coming from our motor. So we limped it back. Our motor is a freshly built 1776cc with less than 300 miles on it. Figuring I need to adjust the valves, I let it sit over night. This morning, when I pulled the valve cover, I found that the elephants foot on #1 intake had sheared off and was lying in the valve cover! Anybody that can recommend a good mechanic near Yellowstone?

Most brands of swivel foot adjusters are not worth as much as their packaging is. Check a place like Pelican Parts for real Porsche adjusters.

If need be you can clean up your valve stem with a Dremel, having wrapped very thing in the rocker box with oily rags first.
