not really cause on a 50 year old car anythings possible...different year parts could be swapped around so you could have a 62 trans case or a later one or your original one...if its been rebuilt any number of year components could be used....squarebacks had a wider track and larger brakes so it could have been a performance upgrade or just the only used swingaxle the guy could find at the right price at the time....the z bar setup worked the exact opposite of an anti roll bar...so as you loaded the outside wheel, the bar pushed down on the inner wheel to try to keep it from lifting off the ground... the brackets are on opposite sides of the axles,and the arms came off the front and rear of the bar instead of the same side like a conventional anti roll bar...iirc the brackets are on different angles cause the bar wasnt centered directly over the axle...helped a little at low speeds but at high speeds it increased body roll and helped jack the rear in the air so you still wound up on your roof instead of just spinning out...the aftermarket fix was a' camber compensator' which was just a leaf spring that prevented the suspension from achieving full droop and pole vaulting off the outside wheel...in other words ,dont be too concerned with hooking it back up...

So this is not original transaxle? Can I find out from numbers on right side of tranny?

the bugs used the bolt on brackets...the weld on brackets were from a type III...cant tell from photos but you may have the larger type III rear drums also

This is on a 67. The 68 must have changed the bracket to a welded type. The 67 was a bolt on bracket system.

It's all in the engineering. Remember, these cars were designed by folks way smarter that we are. Well most of us anyway.

67-68 factory Z bar you are missing the rest of it.

I see. But why are they different? Doesn't look like it's bent, weld intact.

68? It's remaining from a removed "Z" bar load leveling system. They were on 67-68 year swing axle cars.

Part that is facing rear of car, looks like an eyelet, different on one side to other. One level one angled down. What they foe and why different?? Thanls.
