Does anyone have advise on painting doors? I have a 1969 Std Beetle and I am going to paint it and was wondering if I should remove the doors. How do you paint the hinges without it chipping later?

Aloha,

Leave the doors on. Its extremely difficult to reassemble the door hinges after the paint has dried without it chipping off. When my 69 was painted all the fenders, hood, decklid and windows were moved, only the doors remained and the paint along with the hinges came out perfect.

Good luck.

What if the actual hinge has rust on it?

If there is a lot of metal flake or pearl in the paint then paint with all the parts on, or near where they go, so it matches.

How to keep hinges from chipping? no idea. coat with dirt and grease like normal and nobody will see the chips. Confused
