I have a 1300 engine in my 66 and a back up 1200 engine. It looks like there may be many upgrades and improvements available for a 1300. I'm happy with the 1300 performance and would like to focus on reliability. I'm starting a check list, please let me know what items should be added.

I rebuilt a few engines 20 years ago, but don't remember many details. An assemble check list would be great.

Thanks

Welded counter weighted crankshaft.

Maxi 2 oil filter pump or the VW made Mexican version.

Dog house cooling system.

9mm stem exhaust valves. Not sure you can get for a 1300.

The stock 1300 has great reliability if not pushed for more power, and the suggestions above are great for long life.

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, for all the is Vw holy, make sure everything is clean that you're working on. New seals are a must as well. Check list like this,
Am I clean, are my tools clean, are the motor and parts I'm putting together clean? Everything else should be easy. Enjoy the rebuild.
