My '65 bug came equipped with 356 wheels and brakes. Wondering if I should use the Porsche torque spec for the lug nuts (94 ft. lbs), or the VW spec (85 ft. lbs as I recall).

Thanks for any input.

356 wheels and brakes?
I'd say use the Porsche spec.
If it were a hybrid, say Porsche drums and Vw wheels. Then maybe use the lower torque spec.

I would base it on the lug bolt size.

That said, if the lug bolts are stock VW M12 then use stock specs, but if the Porsche drums use M14 then go with the higher figure.

The Porsche setup uses studs and lug nuts vs. the VW lug bolts. And the studs are M14. As an aside, I had to enlarge the holes on my Torque Meister so it would work with the M14 studs.

So the next thing you have to determine is whether they are oiled or non-oiled torque specs.

Not much between 85 and 94 two anyway. In this case the torque setting is to prevent irreversible stretching of the bolts rather than the loss of the wheel.

I also had to do that to mine...not particularly easy.

Use the 356 torque spec. They aren't VW parts, so it doesn't make sense to use VW specs.

Thanks for all the replies. I torqued them to the 356 spec.
