|

I've recently bought a 1972 Westfalia and it has an electric socket at the base of the bench.
My question is can I only use the socket when the camper is connected to the mains or is there a way of using the socket with the campers engine battery?
thanks in advance |

it's shore power, or was that way originally. you'll need to use a properly rated "extension" cord plugged into an outside power source.
you probably could do some creative wiring to a second battery somehow, and with some kind of converter/inverter, but that seems like an awful lot of work. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Cool thanks for that, this was how I had been used it but wasn't sure if there was a breaker and I could use the car battery. Guess I'll have to find a campsite with a mains supply if I want to use it. |

What are you wanting to power while camping?
You can add a deep cycle battery that gets charged along with the starter battery while driving. You can either connect an inverter to it to get 110V AC or better yet connect some 12V DC recepticals to charge devices and run other DC electronics. _________________ Cream Puff

If you over tighten the Oil Strainer bolt, you will brake the engine case!
There is a Oil strainer in there.
TORQUE THE STRAINER BOLT TO NO MORE THAN 9 FT. LBS. |

Just an electric pump for an air mattress, the one I bought is for the mains so was looking for a way to not do it manually. So no issues and I know how to use the mains now. |

For something like that, you can use a small inverter that plugs into your cigarette lighter. It uses the 12 volts from your car battery and allows you to plug in light-duty things like that air pump.
You can go total ape shit and buy some big inverter that provides 1,400 watts of power or more, but the point is there are plenty of options with that stuff. Walmart and your FLAPS should have those. |

A 12 volt inflator would be the simple answer. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

For that matter there are battery operated and rechargeable air mattress inflation / deflation pumps as well. Small and compact to boot! |

We have a cool one on our boat which can use
Internal battery
12 VDC plug
110 VAC plug
I think Ozark is the brand - its cheaper at the RV World PLace than WallyMart - despite the marketing _________________ .ssS! |
