Pressure in the crankcase pushes against the inlet to the oil pump, and also the exits from the bearings etc. as you say. So pressure in the crankcase is equal to the pressure in the oil galleries if the pump isn't spinning. It's all in the same closed system. So if the oil pump isn't spinning, the oil pressure gauge will read the crankcase pressure. Then when the pump spins, it adds to the pressure in the galleries. So if you had 10 psi in the crankcase and 40 psi oil pressure, the gauge would read 50 psi. The oil is only being "pushed" with 40psi of pressure, but the gauge will read 50psi because the gauge reads relative to ambient, not relative to the crankcase.
