Howdy folks,
I fried my alternator harness and need to make a new one.
Does anyone know what gauge the wires are? My hot lead cooked so bad that I can't read the shielding, looks like a 10 or 12 gauge. The other three that go to the regulator look like 16 gauge, if I'm wrong please let me know.
This is for a 78 Westy with a 55 amp alternator.
Thanks for your input.

Ken, if you can do the conversion, the metric wire gauges are listed on the wiring diagram.

Ahh, I did not recognize those numbers as gauge size. There are many converters on line.
Thank you.

It's 8 gauge wire. I have some old alternator wire sitting right next to me and a roll of 8 gauge, they're the same. _________________ air-cooled or nothing for me

I just made my own with the proper 70 amp plug the other day, the irony. _________________ air-cooled or nothing for me

Make your own and sell them for less. I'm guessing you'll find that sourcing the materials, assembling, packing, and marketing them takes so much of your time for the few that you sell that you are working for peanuts. Like it or not making and selling parts for old VW's is like making and selling parts for new Bugati's. There's just not that many left out there so you can't just set up a factory to mass produce them cheap. _________________ 1977 Westy, Automatic. Big Valve heads, CS Cam. |
