I just bought a 69 bay window and I am trying to figure out what they call that piece of tin on the inside back that covers the external vents to the engine. I have water coming in through those when it rains. They are the two pieces that are riveted in on both internal corners next to the rear cargo hatch.

There aren't any factory access holes there (that I know of), you might be looking at someone's attempt to cover rust due to salt air.

Thanks so much! I guess I'm going to be drilling rivets and finding out what's behind them. Well, was going to but alas, it's raining in the afternoon in Florida. ***suprise*** I'm really curious how they got them shaped so well. They match the body bends and even the lip on the hatch door.

looking at them again, they do look factory made, but I suspect that you're not going to like what you find back there.

They are factory, early bare interior buses had soundproofing there covered by a thin metal shield.

Yeah, I don't think water coming in from the bottom when it rains is a indication that it's all fine back there. I'll post some pics up of when I take them off. Have to stop the water from coming in. It's killing the interior sheet metal.

Cool, it was delivered to El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula (Los Angeles). Rust should not be too bad, unless it lived its live on the coast.
Good luck

Frame and unders are pretty good. Rear corners are intact. Only real problem is around the Windows. Couple holes in the floors here and there. From what I know it's been in Florida for at least 15 years.

Vehicles near the coast rot from the top down because of the salt in the air collecting on the body & getting washed into all the crevices by rain, vehicles north of the NC border rust from the bottom up due to salt from the roads. Vehicles in the SE rust from the bottom due to the moisture from being dormant in the damp grass/weeds.
