I have a brief opportunity to part out a 1972 bus. Is the front clip on a 1972 model compatible with a 1978 from bumper rail to windshield? |

Isn't the nose of a 72 the same as that of a 71? _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

Ok, folks. Thanks! I know that 1972 is a transition/one year only type of situation.
Next: How about the slider door? Will that hardware and door transfer over to the 1973 model?
Will the windshield fit to the 1973? |

Windshield fits
IIRC, the key mechanism changed from 72 having it in the handle to the 73 having it just below the handle _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

OK, my 1973 has it in the handle. My 1977 had it seperate and below. At some point, the sliding doors changed I think. I have a sliding door that I just could not get to fit on my 1970 bus. |

The sliding door changed between 1973/74. So, the '72 and '73 should have the same sliding door mechanism. In '74 VW moved the lock cylinder out of the handle into it's own place below the handle.
I happen to have a '72, '73, and '74 under my stewardship at the moment. '75, too, but it's a pickup, so no sliding door on that one. _________________ John

I have a lock in handle slider door on my 77. I don't remember what year I pulled it from, but it mounted right up and worked just fine _________________ Rebuild your own FI Harness..My Harness
