|
|
Hi,
my wife & I will be flying from the UK into Redding in early October and have a few days to fill. Can anyone with local knowledge point us to the best sites and activities, please?
We like mountain biking but would need to hire bikes, etc - any known locations for rentals? What about other country activities beyond walking and taking in the views?
What is there for day trips out of the city?
thanks _________________ Garyd

You are flying into Redding from the UK? Landing at Redding International?
While Redding may have some charm, why Redding? _________________ Larry in OB

Whiskeytown Lake is close to Redding and has hiking, biking, beaches etc.

Mt Lassen is about 60 miles East, but beautiful & worth the drive.

Mt Shasta is about 60 miles North, but has more to do/see than Mt Lassen?

Redding successfully keeps its charms somewhat hidden from view.
I suggest that you head a bit north to Mt. Shasta and hire bicycles, get advice, local knowledge, etc. at The Fifth Season.
By the way, my British friends always hold off on purchasing gear or apparel in the UK if they know that they're coming to the States. That stuff is much cheaper over here than over there.
And the above post is correct: Everyone everywhere knows about Yosemite, but there is an absolutely fantastic (yet often overlooked) National Park near Redding: Lassen National Park.

Shasta Caverns on Lake Shasta. Lots of area to hike and bike around the Sacramento River. |

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Some I had found but others I need to add to the list.
If there's any more then keep them coming. _________________ Garyd

I'm assuming you are planning a trip to the nearby coast redwoods parks. Not far and a nice drive over to Eureka/Arcata. |
