This looks like a great start to a original bus! That exhaust does have to go. I have buses ive bought that came with the same one. Its kinda loud. The rear seats are definitely bay window seats. Which is ok, its better then no seats. The fronts are the correct 60/40. Wrong covers. All your hardboard door panels, theres a company called TMI that makes reproduction door panel sets. Or you could chase down a orignal set in the classifieds. I had a Titan Red deluxe a few years ago and ive got another one now that im working on. It was painted orange though. One of my favorite things to do when I get a new bus is to de-code the MPlate behind the passengers front seat. Then you know what all you need to get. My guess is that since its a non-walkthru, it probably had a full length middle seat? Looks like a great driver bus either way! Good luck!

Congrats on your bus!

Besides replacing the fan belt, you need to replace that crank pulley. It looks really rusty and pitted which will continue to eat up your belt (s) in the future.

Thank you! Been looking for a replacement pulley but haven't been able to source one just yet.

Other than trim what’s the difference between deluxe rear bumper and standard. Can I just install deluxe trim on a standard bumper? Considering its nearly impossible to find s deluxe rear I’m thinking of just adding trim to my standard?

Yup that's it. Just the trim.

Can you guys help me figure out if my wheel cyl is leaking or my reduction box?

Shoes and drum soaked in oil. Rear part of the reduction boxes dry. No external sign of leak from them.

Could be o-ring, spring came off the seal, spacer seal surface went bad, seal put in wrong, seal bad, bearing cap had nicks and the gasket leaked, loose axle nut, etc.

How long did it go before leaking?

It could also be the brake cyl though. I have the bus tilted a little more to that side in hopes of seeing where its coming from. Since removing the brake cyl yesterday there are no drips so far.

Usually brake fluid will eat the paint off the rim.
Was there fluid around the seals on the wheel cylinder?
This could indicate a leak there.

Does the fluid smell like tranny fluid? It has a particular smell...

Having it all apart might be an issue on checking for leaks.
Sometimes everything has to be assembled and torqued down for the axle seal to be totally sealed up.

Sometimes mechanics install the large o-ring by mistake which will goof up the sealing of the cover.

This could be it. I think the backing plate is installed incorrectly, so that might be a sign of more screw ups.

Not to mention the guy who i bought this bus from unfortunately is known for mickey mousing work just to flip for quick cash. Worst part of all he's a regular on the samba.

Ordering the seal kit today...

I used a 1.5 inch PCV cap to press in the new seal. worked like a charm.
$1.14 at home depot.

Got the reduction box leak sorted out and now i need to tackle the steering box.

Ordered a seal, bearing puller and should have it done by mid week.

I'm also going to replace my drag link to reduce some play in the steering. Seems to be the culprit. Center pin looks okay for now.

that is how they usually are, one big hole for the wire and a smaller one to keep it from turning.

just want some confirmation on this. Looks to be a rear seal leak. leak increases with RPM. Tiny drops when car is off.

Went head and decided to pull the motor. Thanks to a lazy and " in it just to flip"po. I only had to remove 3 mounts to get the engine out. PO does this for a living to support his family otherwise i'd call him out here for a shitty rigged flip job. Totally mislead me during the purchase process (out of state)

First time putting the bus on this lift. Worked out well. I'll need to make some changes in the garage to allow more ceiling clearance.

Will need to figure out how much needs replacing while the engines out. Clutch will be changed. What are your thoughts on the flywheel?

After 4 hours of scrubbing, degreasing and pressure washing. I can see my transmission. Took a nice bath in caked gunk. Evil or Very Mad

Trying to revive some of the OG paint. Hit it with the glaze in the front. Nice results. You can see the difference between the front and the door.

It was so messy, gave up after 4. I bet i could do another 4.

The pressure plate has a date stamp of 1979. I assume no one ever serviced this poor transmission.
