Yes, I did use a rust inhibitor on that area after I sanded as much of the rust away as I could. I also sprayed it with a zinc primer before I installed the new inner. I could have replaced the outer portion, but I really wanted to save as much of the OG metal and paint.
I'm open for advice, if there are other ways to battle the rust in areas I want to keep.
Thanks! |

Update on the progress I made this weekend.
New Inner Rocker
Outer Rocker complete - took awhile - had to replace both B & C Pillars. Aligned the cargo doors as best I could. They are a little bowed along the bottom and the middle gap increases quite a bit from top to bottom, but overall I'm happy!
Started removing the cargo floor
A few hours later most of it is gone - what a messy job!! Have to clean up around the edges and straighten out a couple top hats.
Thankfully, no rust issues under the floor. |

Good Progress!
On the cargo door side, did you get the middle rocker installed too?
Did you install it as a unit with the outer or individually and then the outer over that? |

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I attached the cargo strengthener to the outer rocker first. I did have to trim some off the ends of the strengthener in order to make it fit. It all seems to fits pretty good now.

AS350 - Unfortunately, I didn't take any in process pics. I got so wrapped up in the repair that I forgot. I did use an Autocraft repair panel that I purchased from Wolfsburg West. It worked well for the most part. I had to slice it in a couple areas to get the correct shape. I also had to repair the "wings" on the fresh air system (under the roof skin). I'll take more pics in the future. |

Made some good progress this weekend. Got the front floor all finished - reinstalled the heater tube/vent, fixed all the weatherstrip channels around doors, installed my safari windows, and got the lower portion of my drivers door fixed.
Before
After
Also, got my son out to clean up the beetle transaxle we picked up for the bus.
I have the passenger door left to complete, the battery tray, and I still have to install the cargo floor. I can see the end in sight for the rust repair! |

73sparks: The brake pedal arm was relieved in that area due to clearance issues. I purchased a steering box raise kit from Wagenswest. Their kit made the process very easy - templates and precut metal included in the kit.
I love having my son help me out in the garage. I'm trying to get this bus on the road for him to drive (at least once) to high school before the school year is out. Thanks for the nice comments! |

I used a small buffing pad on an air drill. Worked excellent. Went through a number of pads, but saved my hands and arm! |
