Okay, so this van belongs to a client of mine who's dream is to have the van he always wanted when he was 17- he is now in his 60's. He knows this build is not everyone's cup of tea and that he'll never get the money back out that he's putting in- it's a keeper. He and his son started the repairs and mods and now has put the work in my hands, along with a handful of new mods and alterations. He and his wife love their vw's in a modified kind of way as do many of us. I love it all: OEM, patina, modified and custom. We are constantly fleshing out new ideas(I'm not a great artist on paper so my pencil is a welder and plasma for eraser)not all you see is permanant. Feel free to applaud or puke; all opinions and ideas welcome. And so i present his 66 panel project in rough draft:

Should mention this van has a TDI engine with Vanagon 4speed, rear air ride...I'll post more. This auto moves down the road very quickly.

Bonkers for sure! I'm not sure this thread is in the right section though...

You know why you shouldn't hold in your farts? Because they'll travel up your spine and into your brain. That's where shitty ideas come from.

I like custom as long as it's made to look like it belongs, like it could have been built that way. Everything on that looks like an afterthought. A shitty, shitty afterthought.

Is it really a dually?

I don't like it myself but I am interested in seeing the finished project as most vehicles like this are never finished and end up being cut up or junked.

I think people would be interested in seeing the drivetrain and knowing what work was involved in getting that installed.

I was wondering that too.

Totally LOL to the "holding in your fart" comments. I'm right there with ya- I realize this project will straight up enrage and disgust A lot of people , while raising curiosity or interest in something just.. Different and unusual. I would not be surprised to see this on a wall of shame thread-
I will post up some engine, suspension pics tonight. Feel free to knock or inquire.
PS- thank you moderator for moving post.
Yes- it is a dually.

I had to check twice to make sure I was in the right forum and not the Bay window forum.

Man that's a wild ride you're finishing up, not my cup of tea but I would like to see the end product.

Is the running gear a stock set up? let me rephrase that, is the running gear VW modified or has it been replaced altogether. I'm curious of the make of the front rims.

Good luck.

EDIT--Just read towards the bottom of the pictures, TDI & Air ride Surprised whoa!

It's very....different. Jersey Look gone completely bonkers!

I am also curious how it ends up, and will follow a metal working thread almost regardless of the subject matter. Do carry on!

It needs a matching horse trailer made from old buses with those same side windows. When the trailer is off, the hitch should have fake bull testicles. Run some massive trucker vertical stacks to send off the diesel smoke and it will be perfect.

For some reason Im seeing a mural of a wizard somewhere.......the owner riding a unicorn maybe.
Its not my thing at all, but just like we all slow down on the freeway to look at a car accident, i will stick around, rubberneck and watch.
Carry on....

To each his own.

Might as well widen the beam, add front fenders and some running boards. Wink

In this next pic you can see the top of radiators on either side. i think the intention was to mount them in the vent area with the scoops added to the exteriorl helping cool them, however i've read differently and think the scoops will be about 90% cosmetic and 10% function but at least not hindering air flow completely.
