Nope. Simply removed surface rust and painted them.

If you're one to rarely clean up your vehicle, I can see their worth. For me, they were warped and already useless. Living in the dusty southwest and being one who keeps her van relatively clean, even on road trips, those trim pieces are simply not needed, and collected more dirt and debris than they prevented. YMMV. _________________ ~Kamz

Is the z-bed the same length as the Westy? I'm away from the tintop (non weekender) and cutting and making a cover for a memory foam topper.
Dimensions I've gathered so far from searching: 61"-62" in width. I'm in the camper so I can measure the topper in that one for length.
Cheers y'all! _________________ 89' Westy Subaru 2.2 |

I was looking for a spot to run direct battery for a fuse block and found this tube sticking up behind the steering column. What is it? I can easily remove the black plastic cap.

I blew out the crud between the body and the trim. They are still in decent condition so Ill probably keep it for now until it starts to deteriorate.
Thanks for the info everyone! |

I found it easier to run wires from the starting battery under the carpet in front of the passenger seat and installing an aux fuse panel behind the glove box. _________________ “Most everyone’s mad here. Since this is the "Official lazy person's stupid question thread" here's my lazy answer.
Let me guess, you have an automatic.

you mean the answer to your question

Yes I think I know what itis.
the black plastic cap is just a plug to seal the passage way of the clutch hydraulic line. This is where the clutch hydraulic line goes thru the "firewall".
So That is why I guess you have a Automatic. right? _________________ 1982 AC P27 - 2.0 FI FED - 091 - BA6

Yes, I do have an auto. Thanks!
I considered using it for a positive battery wire conduit, but went with the rubber grommet behind the shifter that the heater core hoses go through. |

I have four of these to clean up, maybe paint. [edit; paint the black coloured bits] I really like the look. Installing them will save on storage space.
Are these the kind of wheel covers that will get stolen, say, in a big city? i.e. are they a desirable VW part?
Neil.

There's a metal worm sitting on top of my automatic transmission.
What is it for? Coolant hose hanger from a previous version? But previous versions didn't have coolant, so I'm confused. Can I remove it?

Coolant hoses. It keeps the hoses up off the auto trans and linkage. _________________ ~Kamz

This ad has been up for 20 months. Granted, they're overpriced and beaten but I wouldn't say these are highly desirable except for a certain few who like them.

As for hoodlums, they go for a bigger payday nowadays and steal catalytic converters and fancy wheels off of Audis.

I asked once but didn't get much of a response then but don't feel its worth creating a thread for so I figured I'd try and ask again.
Does anyone one know the part number or where to find the connector for the IAC valve for an 89 vanagon?
Per my previous post it is not a standard connector that is used in the vanagon and from what I can tell nothing else uses this size of a connector.
I'd really like to get a replacement connector for this but can't fine anyone that seems to offer a replacement. Even if someone has a lead on a used one I'm game! |

What is wrong with the one you have? The reason I'm asking if the plastic is cracked buying a new plug is just going to be the plastic without the terminals in it.
If it is just the terminals that are bad could you not cut them off and put new terminals on the wires and squeeze the new terminals a bit so they are tight and push them onto the Stabilizer valve spade ends? It's a temp fix that might last longer then a temp repair.
Or the "Silicone Rescue Tape" could be used to hold the connector onto the valve body. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.
