I'm about to replace the existing SR15 on my '71 SB with a rebuilt Bosch SR17 (auto stick). Question: do I have to remove the bushing or can I leave it in?

Leave it, there's no reason to remove it. _________________ Glenn

You may need it someday. Imagine your new autostick starter goes kaput while on a road trip, and all you can replace it with is a manual starter from a local auto store. So, you may need that bushing someday.

Thank you gentlemen. I thought so too, but was concerned that I might end up with some sort of alignment issue between the starter gear and the flywheel... _________________ 1963 Beetle

The SR17 is self supporting and doesn't touch the bushing.
