I bought one on eBay last month for 37.00 including shipping.
Thing is, I'm doing flips and twists trying to figure how to put cup holders in it without drilling a hole, and you can buy reproductions with the cupholders for Beetles and Ghias, which I think will work in the 181, for $19.

The Thing Shop has them for $75.00 and they are offering 10% off for the month of April. Don’t know if this helps any though.

I see you're in NC- come up to the Kubel Treffen East this summer in july up here in Asheville and you're sure to find one. I bought a NOS console still in the package for $25 two years ago!!! I usualy see a handful floating around at the show. |

i have one i will sell for 35.00 plus shipping. it looks exactly like the one in the lower photo, with the woodgrain panels. i bought it when i first started my restoration, and i did not know then that it would not fit a 74. it is an NOS VWoA part still in the package. _________________ SL |

Thanks Scott...but I hate to say I just made the same mistake as you...I saw one come up on Ebay for$35 and bought it. It's being shipped to me as we speak. I also have a 74....I guess I have one for sale now too. _________________ 74 Orange Thing

you know this, but for the sake of others who may not:
if you have stock heat it will not fit a 74. it will interfere with the plastic duct on top of the tunnel. _________________ SL |

Holy resurrection Batman!
As far as I know there are no "factory" consoles made for a 74. Other than the bamboo shelf, it's going to be a custom oneoff setup.
The design is going to depend on what you want the console to do. Hold clutter?, That AK47? Gauges?
Sufarii has a nice basket that I've been coveting for a while now. Homemade of course.
There's alway the "Plug and Chug" for beverages

Yeah, I was wondering if anyone would respond to an old thread like that, ..once I get this console issue worked out, and if a passenger side mirror ever turns up..my thing will be done (or as close to it)! Still, if anyone has a 74 with an interesting center console they wish to share, I'd like to see a photo...Thanks. |
