Hi,
I pulled out my brake booster and its a Bendix? It measures 9" across and fit correctly. My plan is to have it rebuilt but should I source an ATE on instead?
Did someone before me install an aftermarket booster? Any ideas?

American made Rabbits in the early 80s had Bendix brake boosters. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bendix was supplying brake components to VW Audi. Not sure you’ll find another booster, so I don’t see a problem having yours gone through. They aren’t rocket science. The booster on my 911 was sticking on. I carefully took it apart, cleaned, lubed, and painted it inside and out. Diaphragm from 1980 was like new. Report back what you end up doing. _________________ ☮️ |

Thanks for the tip!
After doing more research on rabbit brake boosters. They had the Cardone - 53-5741 which in the parts interchange comes up as R2517826 for Bendix and 281 612 105 for ATE the Vangon original. So looks like Bendix made the same brake booster for the Rabbit and Vanagon many years ago. |

Yes Bendix supplied Vanagon boosters in the late years, I came across one parting out a van.
I can supply a new ATE drop in unit for the Vanagon from another car, modded by me.
I'm having parts done right now to make 2 units, one for me, and one for sale.
I already did it on a customer's van a few months ago but wanted to have it done plug and play.
If there's interest, I'll have parts done on a larger scale to sell these boosters. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.
