Just ordered the last parts. New AA 94's
Grant rings and total seal 2nd ring

Thorsten Pieper light weight tool steel lifters...thanks Shag...also going to use my either my other new XR310 cam..its on a 106 lobe or my new in box still Web 86b on 108. Compression will be 10:1. 57cc chambers.
Magnaspark 2 distributor arrived today

Magnum straight cuts
5.5 H beams balanced from Brothers VW

Wolverine bearings all the way....dual thrust cam bearings

List goes on.....
Actually one last thing to order...dual taper aluminum pushrods from Air cooled.

Put the Magnaspark on the 2276 earlier tonight and wow! I instantly noticed the smoother idle, much crisper acceleration. Huge difference...money well spent.

Pulled the trigger and ordered another Steve Long cam for the 2332. XR310(again) but on a 110 lobe. The 106 lobe xr310 in my 2276 makes a ton of power but is a bit peaky...bet it would put down great 1/8th mile times. As it worked out, I'll be running 10:1 maybe 10.5:1.

I did Chuck it.
The interference was small. Was thinking it might not take much to get there.
I barely scratched it round, left a witness mark. No measurable reduction of minimum previous diameter.
It was very hard and was unsure how deep the hardness is.
So stopped there not wanting to get under the hardness and mocked back up.
Still had a ways to go.

Went with minimum flats instead.

That is why I do NOT cut all the way around. I retained the original surface around and just notched. I used a cylindrical grinder to cleanup the flashings between the lobes-reducing further stress-risers.

I felt that removing all the hardness if machined all way around the shaft will weaken it extensively. The engine ran very large NASCAR springs on SS valves and survived.

Spoke with Brothers VW today and they're almost done with machine work on the case. Discussed sleeping the lifter bores and they recommended doing it with any cam that uses large ratio rockers so that's getting done now also. Should have all of the parts here next week and will start the mock up and modify parts process. Took Mark's advice that he always gives with rings...total seal. Looking forward to getting it together and running. And nerves should be better on break in as I'm uso.g Thorsten Pieper tool steel lifters...53 grams each.

JPM11308.....Raptor!
Johannes likes my combo and said the 2332 would be perfect for it. With the numbers I've seen from Neil with the Raptor cams I don't think I can go wrong. JPM looks like they're at the top of the food chain when it coimes to design and function of performance type 1 parts. Trigger pulled.

What are the specs on that and did he advise what compression ratio to run and what spring pressures or pushrods (I know he advises to lighten up the valve train)?

Said to run at least 10:1. Said my vw650 springs would be fine with it. Told him I'll be using light weight Thorsten Pieper tool steel lifters and the aluminum pushrods from Air cooled. He said that would work out just fine.

270 @ .050 and lift with 1.4's ends up at .576.

Good choice on the Raptor #113.

My previous Raptor cam had two degrees more duration and slightly higher lift and made 204 HP to the wheels on 94 octane 10:1 CR. Good enough to run mid-12’s in a heavy late Beetle, with a terrible driver at the wheel, and still handle city driving smoothly.

I bet 10.5:1 would be pretty good for that camshaft. Like you said J recommended at least 10:1. I ran a cam in the past that was 270 at .050" and made the mistake of running just 9.5:1. I should have ran it a point higher. You are right though JPM seems to be at the forefront of R&D and producing something that works very well.

I'm excited about this 2332 build. Doing some things a bit different and better.

My Thorsten Pieper tool steel lifters came in today...53grams! Sending them down to Brothers VW to have the sleeves in th bores done perfect. Also my total seal 2nd rings, g4ant rings, and AA 94's came in. Getting closer to mock up.

I need a good electric fuel pump. Dells so no more than 3.5lbs pressure I think is what they like. Need a pump that won't break the bank bit will provide enough fuel in the upper rpm's. Any advice?

For my 2332 cc, I run the Carter P60504 rotary pump 3.5 psi to Weber IDA's.

What do you use to regulate the pressure?

Just ordered one, if it works on your 2332 with IDA's it'll work with my Dells in mine.

I do not use a regulator, as it's already set at approximately 3.25-3.5 psi:

That's what I figured. Decided on the cam and I'll be doing a little experiment. Using my new in the box xr310 on 106. My rockers are CB 1.4's. Just ordered four 1.3's from CB to use on the exhaust valves. Been reading in it and it's supposed to help out with overscavenging on cams with a lot of duration.....bring in a little more low end torque. Curious to see how the motor behaves. I'll try both the 1.3 and 1
4 on the exhausts and see if I can feel the difference. Should be interesting and it gives me something else to tinker with.
