Every single time I cross the border, which is multiple times per year, both sides ask me if I have any weapons, drugs or alcohol. I've never been asked if I have any kind of specific permit.
Do we even have concealed carry permits in Canada? Does anyone even own a handgun except for criminals?

Top tip: If you're crossing into Canada at Blaine, Washington, go to the truck crossing and hit the duty free and pick up a bottle of cheap booze. You can bypass nearly the entire lineup that way. Win-win! Cool

Just don't cross the border with fresh fruit or those kinder eggs. That might lead to a cavity search! Shocked

If you are asked by Canadian border agent if you have ever had a DUI conviction and you respond yes, you can turn around, they will not let you in.

When I crossed the CA border at Wolfe Island in June 2015 on my summer trip to AK I was asked if I had any guns with me. Then if I had any guns at home. Then (since I did not have any guns with me) I was asked what I had with me for personal protection, answered 'nothing' then I remembered the big ass can of bear spray. The officer took a good look at it and said it was fine. No search of the bus.

There are always some cowboy officers at the borders on both sides who just enjoy hassling folks. The cowboys on the Canadian side are a little more polite, and will thank you for your patience after searching and disassembling your vehicle and leaving it to you to re-assemble it.

Is Celine the one who sings with Josh Groban??

I think we should build a well between us and Canada - and the EU should pay for it. Open hoarders of VW parts should be band.

Anne Murray is Andy Murrays' grandmother, in case you were wondering. They had a hit single..."You needed me to double fault"

So-o-o, when crossing into Canada, it's a bad idea to hide the guns under the marijuana bales???

Just a directional comment that you cannot leave handguns at the border on either side. They make no provision for that whatsoever. I don't want someone here arriving at a border crossing expecting to hand over their Colt through the window. Presenting yourself at the border with contraband of any kind is a bad idea.

On the 18" thing - again you cannot just show up. Thats a size limit Canada has had in the past but you cannot show up with a conforming long gun and expect to get across anymore.

I would strongly urge anyone contemplating a firearm and Canadian passage to consult their latest rules on the website as they can and do change. You have to fill out a lot of forms and I think there is advance fee paying as well before you arrive.

On pepper spray, they seem fine if you say "Bear spray" and the canister is that type. But they frown on self defense comments and canisters designed for that. Know the rules - especially if you are in a van with a looooong history of imagery and reputation.

We love Canada and BC is a favorite destination for our family.

Fantastic response IdahoDoug. Information instead of insults.

And I'm glad to see that boarder vs border thing cleared up.
