A bit ago my neighbor was helping me push my broken down '81 Vanagon and unbeknownst to me while he was doing so he was holding down my sliding door handle and using it as leverage. Afterwards the sliding door refused to open. I was able to determine it was a problem inside the latch mechanism and that it needed to be replaced.
So I ordered a sliding door latch from Parts Palace that was supposed to fit all Vanagons 80-92. Except when I got it I realized that it's very similar to, but slightly different from mine. Mine is on the left, with the extra little hook part and the other one is the one that I bought, which is missing that piece and is slightly smaller. I've tried to find a part that matches mine online, but I haven't been able to (other pic is my latch's serial number). Does anyone know where to get this part? Or of a VW graveyard somewhere in the Los Angeles area that might have one? I'm desperate! Thanks!

I don't know exactly when they switched the part but probably around 86. I replaced mine on an 83 and mine is like the one on the right. The place you got it should try and get you the part you need. Otherwise check ebay for a seller of Vanagon parts in Citrus Heights, CA. Jason, he has a Vanagon boneyard.

| Thanks for the advice. Place I bought it from says they don't have any others like it unfortunately. |
