I ran cool tins. I bumped compression and took them out, ran cooler. |
I recently pulled my 1915 and bumped the compression from 7.6:1 to 8.5:1 (tighter deck), I left my modified cool tin and temps went down as well.
I think a more efficient burn affects CHT more than cooling tin choices.
SS pistons (domed) react better to higher compression making an even more efficient burn possible. _________________ Grapes of Wrath $200 Engine Rebuild

Yeah the nylon locknuts really don't hurt anything, IMO.
I avoid using them for the same reason I don't use orange silicone sealant.
So I don't look like an idiot.
People on a -professional- level see either and assume it was assembled by a goober.
However, once you get to master level, you realize it's actually not the case, just a stereotype. The stock hardware was actually NOT better than general purpose locknuts, and the color of sealant really doesn't matter. In fact the original orange is still one of the best when used correctly.
I sealed my case together with a red sealant, looks a lot like 518, but it's actually just ketchup. |

I like to use JIS b1190 flanged nuts. I buy them on the internet, whoever has some for sale.
I got some at the hardware store once. They ordered them by mistake. Pretty sad, if the only way they can stock what I need is by accident, No wonder the internet sales are "taking over" |

Great job on this build! Why the W-130? What is your CR? What do you think your HP will be? _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

I have a w130 in a 2109 and I like it so I wanted to use one for this build. Also I'm useing 1.1:1 rockers which the w series is made for. The compression is set at 10:1. I don't know what it's going to make. I plan on getting it dynoed at some point.
This is the third set of heater boxes I have made. The only difference is they were 1 5/8". They blow good heat. I do agree that having fins would help but the pipes alone are good enough for me. |
The W130 is a great cam if you absolutely can not afford ratio rockers. I would of left out the total seals to make room in the budget for ratio rockers and a ratio rocker cam. Big stock rockers cams IMO are obsolete. An old school solution that needs to be left in the past.

Is this a type 1 or a type 4 engine you are building? I was referenced here while trying to build my type 4 engine in another thread. |
