Amazing how much history is around you if you really do take the time to drive on rural roads and state highways. And have the interest to stop and document it with photos. Having your Ghia in the shot automatically ages the buildings 50 years.

3 years ago I ventured into the long-abandoned grounds of the Rockland Psychiatric Center in southern NY, only 2 towns away from me. The grounds have a public golf course, and a modern admin. building that is still in use. The concrete pavement itself is a throwback to the early 20th century. My stop and photos turned out to be a prudent move; much of the complex was torn down last year for a "data center".

Come on up here and I will take you to our parliament buildings. If you aren't convinced just sit in and listen for a bit... Rolling Eyes

TDCTDI, on a side note, I see you have removed the head ache rack. Just curious as to what you used it for?

Headache rack? I have the bike rack on the car, I took it off when I went on a long road trip but it’s back on now & it gets used quite regularly for everything that won’t fit in the car.

These are great, thanks for posting them. Upstate NY has a bunch of neat old sanitariums, sanitoriums, & resorts that were just beautiful. Hell, even the old prisons were gorgeous, from the outside anyway, like the Shawangunk correctional facility (Wallkill country club) & the Fishkill correctional Facility.

My challenge to you is to get a pic of your Ghia at Mohonk Lake Mountain resort.

In my wandering today, I found this neat old abandoned home near Louisburg NC.

But the barn was still standing proud.

As was this neat old log cabin that might have been a work shop or maybe even servants quarters.

Nothing like a heavy fog to bring out the moodiness of photo op. I grabbed a few shots of this old log cabin that was rebuilt and is now a local American Legion hall near Wendell NC.

The work space under the house was interesting, I don't think that this was the way to heat the house but it might have been.

Then I found another old abandoned house nearby, the wisteria covered Crepe Myrtle was interesting

been waiting for a dry day to take a drive and add to this thread.

Here is one from sunny West Cornwall, UK. Just a couple of miles from where I live. An old mining site called Wheal Busy. once known as being in the richest square mile in the old world.

This was an engine house used to house a new fangled high pressure steam engine pump used to pump water out of the copper mine below. Built in 1856, replacing many previous installations including a waterwheel powered variation from at least 1710. There are records of streaming for Tin on this site going back to 1250.

In more recent history, in 1944, the shed was used to house US military equipment in the build up to D Day in 1944.

That house in Greek revival house in Benson NC, would have no problem getting big $$ here in MA/RI/CT.

Bringing this thread back from the dead with this classy old Bank. Don't you just love it when they re-purpose these grand old buildings?

And across the street is this "world's largest lamp". Down the street a few buildings is a lamp museum that we must take the time and see one day!

on my recent return from picking up The OThing from the shop, i cruised the coast along the New Jersey Shore. Took a few pics in Asbury Park. The Stone Pony famous for that horrible singer Bruce Springsteen but also where several great bands have played. Also of Convention Hall of Asbury Park. Both buildings at one point were neglected. The Stone Pony had closed a few times.
