Here is Riley Hill school, a "coloreds only" school that was built using contributions from the Rosenwald fund, in Wendell NC built in 1928 & closed in 1970. I have watched this building degrade over the past ten years due to vandalism & lack of maintenance. It has been condemned as of August 2017.

The bascule bridge over the Elizabeth River at South Front Street in Elizabeth, NJ, built in 1922. It carries a roadway and a pedestrian walkway. It is the last operational drawbridge in Union County.
The Elizabeth River had seen commercial use since colonial times, and in those days it was the preferred way to travel from New York City to Philadelphia, by taking a boat from Manhattan to Elizabeth and then switching to a stage coach. When the New Jersey Turnpike opened in 1951, the portion of the highway that passes over the Elizabeth River ended ocean-going navigation on the river, because there was no provision for it to open for river traffic and it was not built high enough to let ships pass underneath.
The bridge has been rehabilitated several times but has remained in the open position since 2011 while the possibility of designation as a national historic site is pursued. Despite the fact that there is no more commercial navigation on the river, while it was in use the bridge was opened approximately 2,000 times a year for recreational traffic. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

This is my Mom's 1956 parked in front of the base housing on Hamilton AFB near Novato CA. The base was decommissioned in 1974. This photo is from 1965.

Here's another forgotten old "farmhouse" I don't know the history behind it but the detail of the dentil molding suggests that it was slightly more grand at one point.
The three or four other "living quarters" were much simpler.

Made my way out to the old wooden plank suspension bridge near Regency, TX today. Notable stats include it was built in 1939 mostly by hand, 325ft long, and it is the last suspension bridge in Texas that is still open to vehicle traffic.

This is a great thread!
Here's a photo I took late last fall of our CC sitting on the threshold of Runway 31 at McCook Army Air Field in southwestern Nebraska. McCook was a training base for B-24s and later B-29s during WWII. After the war the base was declared surplus to needs and reverted to farm use and as a civil airport for a number of years. Most of the runways and apron have had the concrete recycled and corn and soybeans now grows there again.
The irony of this is that our German-built car is sitting on a runway that trained B-24 crews who went on to bomb Germany!

TDCTDI - I've been wondering something:
Are you trying to make these photos spooky or is your camera lens just greasy? |
Crappy pics with a cell phone through a greasy lifeproof case sometimes affected by direct sunlight & occasionally manipulated by the iphones editing options.
Here's the same house in the morning.
And it's neighbor about 50' away.
