Hello
Got the 72 standard bug home and have started taking it apart to do the body work. It is baby blue. I have never really liked the baby blue color and was wondering if you folks might have some pics of cars that are a little off the baby blue color or maybe two tone with the blue that looks better. I don't want to change the inside color and I have dark blue seats and door skins.
Thanks for the help

If you decide you want to do a search for other cars in your color in the Samba gallery, the original color was called "Marina Blue."

I always thought Marina Blue with the dark blue (Lapis Blue) interior was one of VW's better color combinations, but I may be biased as I drove that color 1972 standard Beetle during high school.

It's a vert but this might give you some ideas to play with in the 2-tone category:

I really like the dark blue against the baby blue, others' opinions might vary.

Instead of converting your car to a different color, why not just buy one that is a color you like?

that blue vert does look nice. As for buying another car the car I have is the only one I can afford at the time. I'm quit capable of painting it any color I want. I was just wanting to work with the blue and not have to spend money changing the interior colors.

Mine also started as Marina Blue, its a nice color but I preferred GM cobalt blue. Has a bit of metallic in it as well

Too obscure. Your sarcasm has to be more specific with this bunch.

I once bought a car for its color, but found the color was very hard to remove without damaging it. It turned to dust when I tried to sand it off. I was bummed out. Crying or Very sad

yeah if you change the color you may actually be hurting the two tone blue VW market.

Better to just search for the color you want.

Yep- too bad it took me picking up on it and posting a response before you all understood.

I like the Marina Blue, but TX's and Vamram's are also very nice. The Marina somehow remains my favorite--by just a smidge.

A glance at the paint code chart in the tech section here shows that for 72 models there was one other blue-ish color, "gemini metallic," that had an interior offered in the same Lapis blue that you have in your car. Here's a pic of what the gemini metallic looks like:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The other colors for that year model that were offered with lapis blue interior were pastel white (actually think this might look kind of neat with the interior paint kept blue), and saturn yellow, although that seems to have only been offered on verts.

The 72 super I bought a while back was originally pastel white, but someone had painted the exterior marina blue, but left the interior white. I didn't have a problem with it at all.

Colors are always a personal choice. For me any car that has a different exterior then the interior looks mismatched. Instead of changing the color other options might be different wheels, whitewalls, stripes, graphics, etc.
