I love recovery threads so doing one for my new pile. Smile

So I was told at this years local car show that there was a bus just like mine in the wood about 5 km from me. I would be sceptical of these things except he made a point of saying it had a post in the middle of the windshield. Smile I was also told the old guy that owned it does not sell anything. He was at least a 100 years old thirty years ago when I saw him last...

So yesterday afternoon I took a trip down to the local hermits sprawling collection of old things. Found him propping up a roof on one of his sheds. He didn't try to shoot me and actually pointed me in the direction of the bus

I was so exited to see this pile of rust. Smile

So its defiantly not repairable but some parts and a few good bits of steel. Also a few odd part I need for my bus.

I offered the old hermit a 100 and he was happy to take some complete fools money for some old pile of rust.

It is worth a hundred just for the fun of recovering it. Smile

So went in tonight to clean it up and see what the plan of attack is. Was hoping we could get it out in one piece.. Just for the fun of it.

Frames are completely rotted off at bulkhead and it has settled into the ground quite a bit. Just going to be to much trouble and I was just going to chop it up at home anyway.

Looks like the front beam may still be good. Clutch pedal still worked. steering box feels nice and tight. Found over $100 in little things I was going to need to buy for my bus.

Cleaned it out and made a plan for tomorrow.

Engine and trans look good underneath. Was 10" above ground and oily. Need to take some sand paper with me and clean the numbers a bit. Looks like 2259961 but hard to tell

This is so much fun... Smile It is exactly to bus I want to get as a driver... just a little less rust would be nice Smile

Cleaned the dirt off the speedo and it looked great. Some of the switches still moved well. Will be interesting what turns out to be still good.

You should do well with the parts. I see lots of good parts still left of this bus. If the front seat is not rusted away it is worth $600 or so. The tail lights look good. It is too far gone to save, but certainly a great parts bus.

The seat is rotted out and the tale light is cracked Sad

I will save about $200 in parts for my bus though. Just little stuff that adds up. It has all the front interior panels that I can use as patterns for when I make mine. With a few differences. I may be able to clean them up and make them good for a daily driver. Front bumper is usable also. Was surprised there was anything left below the dirt.

I want a panel daily driver some day so think I will keep the steel unless someone needs something. I am really curious about the motor, trans and reductions. From what I could see they look good corrosion wise. Front beam may be good also...

Will find out tonight. Smile

100% humidity and the proper temperature for having a beer... Not cutting up busses Smile

Front section of roof was in usable shape so cut it across behind doors. Drivers door header was no good so seemed like a good spot to cut. Quite rusted at the corners of the windshield so will likely cut it at those spots. Didn't want to cut any more than needed until I was sure.

Left side and roof edge is usable so left it attached to the wall.

Got the front beam "loaded"... It was a slow ride home Smile Beam actually looks good. Wont know for sure until I unbolt it from the frame. Wheels steer...

Only get 1 hour of work before dark now. Got it home and under cover. Giving rain for the next couple days. Will go back for the rest when weather permits.

Nice job, way to get after it. I had no idea you could tow anything with a Toyota Yaris.

Don't think you are supposed to Smile Seams to do all right with this trailer. No tongue weight with twin axels and no suspension. Little under powered though. haha

Broke down some parts tonight.

All the bolts started except one upper shock bolt. Front beam is usable. Actually exilent except for the inner shock bracket on the left side. Rusted area can be cut out and rebuilt easily.

Pedals and hardware all good. That was a surprise. Saving the frame section at pedals also as it was still in good shape.

The dash is rusted bad though the radio area is good. Some good steel in the nose but lots of rust also

Pulled the speedo. Looks great and had a perfect blue rubber washer.
Smile

Should have wiped it off a little better before taking the pic.

Original windshield glass on the right side. White haze in the lower outside corner. Is this any good or do I throw it?

Got some panels stripped and ready for storage. Lots of good parts.

Right side of front roof is good. Nose is not much but the posts are usable. Dash is rusted bad. Radio area is usable but ruff.

The bulkhead has a lot of usable metal. All the complex bits are good.

Engine lid had good hinges and a very good plate light bulb holder. Cargo door had good hinges and latch internals.

Hopefully I will recover some more tomorrow.

Steering box tube was rusted out at floor. Seams good internally. Still has lead seal. Was surprised to see a grease fitting on it. Is that normal?
