Friend of mine wanted to run rubber fuel hose to right hand side carb so he went behind shroud... Suddenly one day had fuel "problem".... Fan actually (somehow) sucked fuel hose in and shredded it..... Have always thought the old screen trick (for sticks and leaves) on fan shroud has/had some merit....
https://socalautoparts.com/shop/engine-tinsheet-metal/fans-accessories/fan-intake-screen-chrome/
And then there is that overlooked shop rag or wad of paper towels and the mouse nest...

Ya, I never thought mush of those screens, especially with the fan inlet usually up against the firewall and I figured it would be pretty hard to suck stuff up in there. Now with the engine behind the body and everything out in the open......I got a screen coming with all the replacement parts,

Well the engine is all back together. Found a couple of internal issues with the carbs and did a jet change and now it runs even better. Borrowed some proper wheel alignment equipment and got the alignment set. My tape measure alignment was actually very close. I also hung the rear tail lights and license plate and made the brackets for the front headlights to meet the class rules of being "street legal, plated and insured". Everything can come off in 5 minutes after I go through tech.
Before putting the fan shroud on, it requires a lot of trimming to fit the CB bubble top case. I also weld in these vanes that are the same size and spacing as the factory flaps to help direct air. And as you can see in the dog house cooler opening I weld in another flange that fills the gap and fits tight to the base of the oil cooler

On all my engines I have welded in that little tab for the oil cooler and then you don't need that stupid Hoover bit. I've never done it but have considered welding in the tabs to replace the flaps. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Made the brackets to mount the front "headlights"
Mounted the master electrical switch on the front cowl. I cut all the circular plates on the car out of .100 aluminum and riveted them to the body.
Sat in the car Sunday all geared up and moved the warning and shift lights around till I found spots I could see them the best and they wouldn't interfere with anything.
And I've started getting the pit box together and gathering spares. I'll glue a few sets of valve cover gaskets together to throw in.
The salt is in incredible shape. There are 4 cars that have run over 400 this week and 3 that have run 450+ Everyone is saying how good the conditions are. We leave 4 weeks from today..........

Chimps dig the car
When it quits raining tomorrow I'm taking the car to the print shop to install the lettering on the aluminum sides.
And I would like to welcome Jackpot Motor$ports as a sponsor this year with a generous donation to help with the costs of getting down to Bonneville. Thanks to Mike and Shelly Sill for their support, much appreciated.

Just read through this thread and I enjoyed it very much. Anything fast and I'm all in. Good luck and go out there and kick ass. If anyone has Amazon Prime you can stream a documentary movie called, "Boys of Bonneville" and it is a fantastic historical reference. With some surprises, at least for me. _________________ '69 Karmy, '69 Camper, Meyers clone, '65 drag bug, 10.78 @ 128 (sold it) '51 Dodge farm truck,

34 hours and counting. Car is tied down and the trailer is ready to roll Tuesday morning. Tool box and spares are packed. Went over the entire car every night for the last week and found a couple of little projects to do. Bolted the body on for the last time last night including the headlights to go through tech inspection.
Princess Auto had a yard wagon on sale so I bought one and used a 2'x4' steel shelf and made a pit wagon to pull along as we are in line will hold the cooler, tool boxes, tires, jack and most importantly a large beach umbrella so we have some shade without someone having to hold it all the time.
