Those bridges were made of interlocking injection molded ABS bricks, so the rebuild process was quick. _________________ -Kent-

You got in on that land rush deal too, eh? I've "inherited" my mom's 5 acres near Desert Hot Springs, been in her family since forever. Cheaper to pay the property tax every year than to try selling it... |

From 2001 to 2010, I sold real estate here in the desert.
One day, I received a lead from an out-of-town client who said he owned a 20-acre parcel of land in Palm Springs. I knew that was unlikely, since all the undeveloped parcels are owned by the local Indian tribe. But I went along with the guy. He said he wanted the acreage broken down into 1/10th acre lots and sold for some exorbitant price. (Can you tell he was from the SF Bay Area?)
It turns out he bought the land believing it WAS in Palm Springs proper. So I sent him a Google Maps view of his land. It was located about 8 miles north of Yucca Valley, which is completely undeveloped and only has walking trails near it. For those unfamiliar with the area, Yucca Valley is maybe 15 miles away from Palm Springs, in the high desert. It's a place for people who want to get away, get away. So the poor guy overpaid for totally useless land.
However, Tritessa, 5 acres near DHS isn't too bad. Lots of people who want the feeling of space but don't want to be too far from Palm Springs build homes there. So don't give it away thinking it's swamp land! _________________ -Kent-

It's one of those 5 acre lots they used to sell with ads in the back of a magazine after WWII, and my grandparents bought in because it was close enough to South Pasadena to be convenient but far enough out to get away from everything. The "cheaper to keep it than sell it" is from when my mom looked into selling back in the late 1980's sometime; yearly property taxes are less money than a tank of gas in a Bus... |

What CR are you shooting for with those dished pistons? |
7.3 - 7.5 to 1. Old engine currently sitting at 7.4 with dished pistons and no shims, spacers, or gaskets. Coincidentally, no oil leaks from the spigots.

How accurate are your scales? |
Last year when I put my little home scale up against a $1,600 precision setup, it was within .2 grams total, and each responded identically to removal/addition of wrist pins. I'm not going to say it's perfect, but .2 grams is well within my tolerance window, considering the factory allowance was FIVE GRAMS difference between the pistons.
Too bad I burned all my bridges at the old job so I can't go back and use their scale………

Thinking about it.. i guess it doesn't matter how accurate they are if they're consistent.
I suppose I really meant how sensitive are they? _________________ |

I use extremely accurate scales every day at factories I go into. From common...but expensive Ohaus 1/10th gram scales that can do 10-20 kilo batches......to desicating scales that handle 12 oz max.....but go out to about 5 digits below 0.
And.....I carry a small....but quite accurate scale in my work tool kit.....because far yoo many times I go into a customer....we have to mix an ink or adhesive accurately....and the scale is either in a clean room we do not have immediate access to (or our process is too dirty to go in).....or their scale crapped out.
This little pocket scale......takes 3 AAA batteries.....does 1000 grams in 1/10th gram accuracy....and I have a reference weight set I bought at the same time. It IS accurate.
http://www.awscales.com/portable-precision-scales-1-gram/237-amw-1kg-digital-pocket-scale
And.....yes....I bought it for ......$9.....and it has a $10 year warranty.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002SC3LLS/ref=asc_df_B0...5656663911
The freaking,shipping cost me more!
It had saved my ass many times in the 2 years I have owned it.....and its perfect for pistons and wrist pins.

Bingo. Years ago before all this digital stuff I made my own "scale" that was made using this principle:
Getting them even is what matters. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

If you have twelve Pistons which Robbie has perfectly matched, except for one which is either heavy or light, and a beam balance scale ( no readout, just compares the two sides and reports which side is heavy), how many measurements do you need to determine both which piston is odd and is it heavy/light?
Your score
6 ...have another beer and try again
5....not bad, take the rest of the week off
4 ....outstanding Red Team Leader, case of beer for you
3.....what are doing on the Internet with these idiots?
2....uh...no. Look up dunning Kruger and report back after school. _________________ .ssS! |

The Mahle Brazil P&C's if they are the older ones before they started mixing the AA pistons with them are excellent. Sadly Mahle Brazil has gone south in QC just like everything else. Based on your gram differences between them you have the good ones. I had my first engine built with them. If they were good enough for Jake they were good enough for me. I am a type 4 guy but enjoying your type 1 build! Keep up the good work! Ohaus scales....well yes they are the most accurate. Don't ask me how I know. |
