I was thinking about buying this 64. Besides the hood, this is the worst.

Pretty sure that's a common replacement. You'll need the patch panel and mig welding skills. Whats the rest of the car look like? With the rust there, the heater channels very well could need replacing.

The only other place I saw actual rot was on the hood. Everything else looked ok, but I didn't go over it with a fine toothed comb. I would never attempt the repair but I know a body guy that isn't afraid of things like this. This however might be the difference between me buying it or not. Seller said that the price was negotiable.

Poke around under the running boards and in the lower, back section behind the front wheels. The vertical sheetmetal that would be between your feet (driver or passenger) and the front wheels.
These are the most common places where the heater channels rot out.
And check for rust through under the battery, the most common place on the pans.

The more I think about the car the more I think that it might not be what I'm lookin for. It's somewhat of a Frankenbug. The dash panel was replaced with god knows what, there's an ignition switch on both the dash and the colum (I'm guessing the steering column was replaced). The side glass was replaced with one piece glass that the seller admits is a problem. (I do loves me some side vents)

I wouldn't discount the car because of some mismatched parts. I would be more concerned about the rust.
For example, a good friend has a ragtop 60 bug, all original. But, I wouldn't touch it because of the severe rust. Holes in the body where the fenders bolt on and some places where the heater channels are gone. Not severely rusted. Gone. As in, not there, missing, absent.

The one piece side glass is kind of doing it. On top of the rust and probable heater channels, I'd have to worry about doors too. I probably need too look at the car again before walking away.

Update. Channels are good, but the body is rotting behind the front fenders, rear apron is cracked in two places, speedo mount was cut out and a one piece plastic dash installed all the way from left to right. Hood rotting. Drivers side pan front to rear need replaced. Crying or Very sad
