I have a thread about this car in the late bug forum, but I thought I would bring this question to this group. I recently acquired a rusty running 70 beetle for $200. I knew the passenger floor needed replacing, which I was kind of looking forward to doing, but upon further investigation, I noticed the passenger heater channel was rusty bad from the firewall to the back. After reading many posts, I'm thinking replacing the channel is something I don't want to do or spend the money on. I was never thinking of keeping this car long, as I already have too many projects, but I just couldn't pass it up for that price. So, here's my issue, do I just try to sell the car whole to someone who might want to fix it? Do I just part the car out and keep the motor as a back up for my other cars? Or is there anything I can do in the short term to actually make this car safe enough to drive without all the work of replacing the channel. I know it's like a backbone and is very important. But I just hate the idea of parting it out and ending its life. Just looking for some guidance from you all. Thanks.

Do a search on replacing the heater channel with the body on. Also you can buy repair pieces of a heater channel.

My thoughts are if that heater channel is that rusty, what else is rusty on the bug? Usually the lower 12" of the bug are rusty and that makes it decision time if the bug should be saved or parted out.

You could flip it and maybe make a few hundred or part it out and probably make more.

Honestly, no other real rust. I've sanded most of the bug down and I'm actually surprised how clean the rest is. I assume the car had a front collision at some point, maybe that opened up that side enough to rust it out.

If it only needs the one side heater channel, I'd fix it. It's really not that hard to do. Bug me video's made a video on how to do it as well.
