Rather than install an aftermarket radio in the dash, I would like to install it under the dash.

I've seen under dash radio boxes online, but I'm not sure how they will fit the curved shape under the dash.

Anyone have any recommendations? Pictures of your own installations?

Thanks.

How would just screwing a din cage (if that's what they're called) like this go? How clean do you want it installed? Best option would be a retrosound stereo, fits stock location with no cutting. Wiring a stereo under the dash is gunna need more holes for wiring loom or having them exposed running through car.

I've decided to install a single DIN radio in the dash.

The cutting is underway. Looks like it will be a tight squeeze.

This stereo is from a Nissan Figaro, sold only in Japan. A friend had one in his Bug and it looked really nice. You can google it and find many on the internet. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/6d/99/61/6d99613dc956d3ab7b7741ee65907a26.jpg

... guess it's okay to cut a dash for a radio on a baja... others would be making a mistake

The original dash behind the aluminum panels was highly hacked by a previous owner in the '70's.

Technology has changed so much that I have to wonder why even bother installing any kind of a head unit anymore. Especially if you have to hack the dash!
Install a stock radio and then use a hidden amp and bluetooth connector to your phone.

It goes with the theme of the car. Vintage custom, but not too vintage.

An 8 track player will be mounted under the dash.
