I don't know the seller but by the other items for sale he/she looks to be a true VW enthusiast located in North Wales UK. Feedback looks good too.

I sold one last month for £115 in mint condition. That is the actual going-rate that the book will sell for (I have sold three in total this year).

I will have another available in the New Year.

… pretty good read - I sold all my VW books, back in 2017, except for my shop manuals and Car of the Century, by JT Garwood - the best car-book, I ever bought...
then I have my old- book collection (1840 to about 1945), from before this computer-age, beginning around 1990 - much better-times, relying on printed material - the internet is great, but nothing like reading a good old book, for all ones information - happy reading - z

Back cover says £33.00 GBP and my copy has a sticker inside the front cover that says $59.99 USD.

I don't recall what I paid. I've had it so long, I don't even remember where I bought it. It's not in my Amazon order history Question

I the price when it was published was £30 but the last one that we (VW Books) sold was in 2009 and the retail price then was £35.

It was first published in 2003 and became 'Out of Stock' with us in 2009.

I got the news from Jacques Mertens that Chris Barber left us on 12 august. The struggle against cancer he did not win.. He was 80 years
RIP Mr Barber, you was a great investigator in history and left us with a great book.

Guess a reprint of his book is out of the question.

Yeah, RIP as you have one of the most hyped books out there with little distributorship causing the it to be the most expensive thing out there.

So sorry to hear that Chris has passed away !! I was aware of
Chris writing for the Beetling magazine and finally met Chris at the 1980
Bad Camberg meeting. I lived and worked in the Frankfurt area from 1980-1982.
Many times I would go visit Chris on the weekends and stay at his house in Ulm !!
He had an in with the Porsche archives and would always show me so many photos !!
He said he would write a book about all the history and photos !! Some 20 years
later the book was published and Chris sent me one of his books !! So I had
Chris send this post card (2003) to me and I use it as a book marker for this Great book !!

So sad to hear about the news. I only know Chris from his book, yet I have to admit he made a huge impact on me on the way I view VW history and has inspired me to pursue an interest in it. I wish there was a way to republish The Birth of the Beetle in Chris' memory.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Birth-Beetle-Development-...amp;sr=8-1

think I'll fire off an email to haynes to suggest a reprint...can't do any harm
