I don't hate it... I don't love it either. I like that they're using the old cars, but I know it's just to pull the heart strings of the people that used to drive them in hopes of getting them to buy a new one. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

Bingo! Hitting on the older baby boomers with their beloved air cooled VW's from their youth. Too bad VW doesn't support these air cooled cars they love to plaster all over their marketing campaigns. Ya have to love walking into any dealer these days and seeing one or more restored air cooled VW's in the showroom too.
On a positive note, it does keep our old VW's front and center in the main stream and the newer generations of young folks. Maybe it will keep driving demand and increase the value of our investments! It's no wonder all these teenagers and 20/30 somethings know our old VW's. They always get excited and complimentary when I'm out in my bus. _________________ Contact me at

I just bought a 2017 car, and wouldn't consider VWs. IMHO they don't go over 100,000 miles. Too cookie-cutter looking, are they ALL painted silver?
I liked the ad as entertainment, still have my low opinion of their product line.
If VW had an original idea, it would die of loneliness..... _________________ ________________________________________

I figured that VW would NOT advertise their emissions scam.
I was unable to view that commercial on my XP computer. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. It's a cute commercial. But, as a baby boomer myself I can easily see how blatantly the advertising agency is working to manipulate me by reminding me of the fun (and pretty young women) of my youth, and of the era when we so naively believed that "all you need is love." So, although they did a good job staging that commercial, sparking old memories (or old fantasies) will not induce me to buy a new VW. _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

Baby Boomers are not the audience for these advertisements.
Frankly, we are too old to buy much of anything that carmakers sell.
(Actually, we are far too old to buy much of anything that anyone sells, with the exception, perhaps, of the Pharmaceutical companies)
Put yourself in their shoes: you have a product that is tainted by some proven, damning, image-killing, criminal scandals. What do you do? Shut down the company?
No, you hire a fancy-schmancy ad agency that will foster warm, fuzzy feelings about your product.
Just like Doyle Dane Bernbach did in the 1960s.
Yeah, I get it that VWOA effectively screwed the pooch when they sicc'd their lawyers on us hobbyists (and you will never, ever buy their product again!!!).
But you know what? Aircooled enthusiasts like us are not their audience either.
We are all either driving our old VWs or friggin' Honda Elements. |

That is not how my escapade turned out. It was more like seat springs short out battery, catching t shirt on fire that was supposed to prevent that, burning hole in seat and 2nd degree burns on back. Kinda like peeing, hard to stop. |
Maybe more than a few boomers had early sexual escapades in a VW. This VW commercial shows a couple doin' it in a VW, then a baby comes along so they need to trade in for a larger VW. And so on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9LRpkWmvhg[/quote

Yes I drove my shaggin wagen and if it could talk. A 64 camper. |
Somehow I can see a couple of posters in this thread rocking one of these iconic 70's shaggin wagons...
