I am looking to find out what the correct color material is for an Azure Blue 1952 sunroof car. All I am finding from suppliers is the Streifen Braun or Braun Chord which both look incorrect to me. Any help or pics would be appreciated. |

Here's my split, May 1952 build.
It was restored in the 80's in Europe so I don't know if it's "correct" but it looks great to me. |

My Oct '51 has the grey with grey and blue stripes.
Himmel Service reproduces it.
http://www.himmelservice.de/english/home.html
They also list the brown version as being correct for Azure Blue but I have only seen cars with the grey. _________________ Chris

the ONLY correct upholstery for an azure blue SPLIT (not zwitter) is Streifengrau. it is grey with dark grey stripes and blue stripes. Anything brown or corded is not correct.

I know this would definitely not apply to your car but for interest sake SA assembled cars had tan or red leatherette upholstery.
I found this Azure 52 split with factory red leatherette upholstery.
This is the only car so far that I seen with red but confirms red was an option.

It is definitely factory.
The seat material and door material (both tan and red) is not the same type material. The door material is thinner and more a paper type finish on the outside. The seats more of a thicker leatherette material that can stretch a bit.
The only difference I could see was the red seat material got a rougher pattern on the outside compared to the tan:
For the rest, for both door and seat it is exactly the same type of material.
I loaded more pics in the gallery for interest.
This leatherette was original for SA cars.
Does any one know what material they used in Australia or other warmer countries? |

Import of vw's didn't start here till after the split era, so any splits found have been privately brought in. _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1
