The brake lights won't work at all if the headlights are on and/or the turn signals are engaged. Signals, low-beam, hi-beam, emergency all work well. '72 westy. Any help is most appreciated, Thanks!

I would guess that you have a bad ground(s) somewhere. If you don't have a meter you need to buy one and learn how to use it. This is something we can't do for you, the by guess and by golly method of electrical troubleshooting doesn't work all that well.

My searches and reading have been pointing to a bad ground. The problem started when I painted my engine bay. I think the over-spray got on some of the wiring and grounds, none on the taillight housing as I removed those prior to painting.

Electrical has never been my forte. Sounds like you guys are speaking Swahili when I hear amps, volts and ohms. Is there a preferred meter to purchase and place to learn how to properly use it?

Whats the best way to clean over-spray? I tried sanding the grounds with a Dremel, Brought back most of everything, but the brake issue still remains. Maybe I'm missing a ground somewhere? I'll try some dielectric grease. Thanks for the quick response.

Buy a VOM meter with an automatic off function, this way you will not run the meter's battery down by leaving it on. Most any meter with an automatic off function will be a good meter. Most people these days buy digital meters though analog meters still have their place in my opinion, I own both. Note: an analog meter does not need an automatic off function.

Fixed it. Wiring was mixed up. Went with how the wiring was when I got the bus, but must have been connected wrong alll along. And to think the brake lights may have not been working all along.

On a side note, I bought some sylvania LEDs but the tail light was too dim. The brake light was ok. Stuck with the regular bulbs as they were better once wired properly.

Thanks for all the help!
