Yea - always toe-in on the rear for me too. Only on dedicated autocross alignments have I read about using toe-out to help the car rotate easier (ie: oversteer).
One source for alignment info:

Ok guys my problem is solved. I changed my tires back to Radials on the rear, with the radial fronts that were already on there. NO more darting, it drives perfectly straight and fun to drive again and not an effort to keep straight. on the note of rear alignment specs i will keep my toe in & the toe isnt going to change due to bushing movement because i have the Jaycee spring plate retainers installed. Thanks for all the input from knowledgeable Samba friends. |

Driven wheels normally have toe out whether they are on the front or rear as a general rule. And yes VW does spec 1/16" toe out on the rear. |

Happy you got it sorted out. Since you mentioned that this issue only came about after you changed the rear wheels, I would have started with that first.
Anyways, its always a great feeling when the issues are solved.
Cheers. |

Shoot wish I saw this earlier... I had the exact same situation.... And I was using a combo of Bias and Radials. They were on the car when I bought it. I have heard of never to mix the two but didn't know the consequences.
I'm IRS Rear , King Link front, Zero toe in the back and 1/8 toe in on the front. Lowered spindles in the front, I don't run any caster shims but built them into the frame when I built the car..
I also will claim shes steady enough to one finger the wheel at 200KPH. Car handles sooooo nice!
