After searching extensively through the site, I'm just wondering. Is it possible to replace just the wire on my choke cable? The outer sheath is no problem with mine but the cable is about 2 inches shorter than it needs to be. Yes I have been working the wire in and out. I have sprayed pb blaster down the sheath. I can easily work the cable back and forth. The wire is perfectly straight under the car. I've been reading some of the horror stories about replacing the cable and was hoping to make it a little easier.

If you make sure the rear end of the cable is straight, it should pull right out without a problem.
Personally always pull those out for cleaning, sanding/polishing, and lubricating with some oil/graphite mixed. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I had that same problem with my 65 111 36hp. After 50+ years the cable snapped at the cable housing where it bolts to the carburetor. I didn't want to go through the hassle of replacing the whole assy. so I bought a new cable assy. and removed just the cable out of the old housing and installed a lubricated new cable from the new housing into the old housing and had it fixed in five minutes. You can't just buy a cable wire anymore like you used to from VW, so you have to buy the whole thing.

I swapped out just the cable, not the sheath and it was a simple job. The choke and the accelerator cable should be pulled once a year for lubrication. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?
