According to the technical info section, it appears to be February 1952. |

This looks like an early 1960s replacement case, used for a factory rebuild (the square stamp is a dead giveaway).
The particular stamp set used to stamp the 6-digit number was used at the factory between 1956 and at least 1961.
What are the dates cast into the case halves?
Please include photos of the boss on the right side of the generator stand and of the part numbers below the pushrod tube holes on each side. _________________ Thanks,

This is likely an early 1960s replacement case, used for a factory 36hp rebuild (the square stamp is a dead giveaway). Since the A-------X series of numbers for rebuilt 36hp engines started in 1964, this rebuild is probably from ~1961-63.

Its an old 25 hp case. The later 36 hp style 25 hp replacement case had the larger protrusion on the right of the generator stand for attaching the oil filler. This has the original small protrusion. The numbers do look wrong so it was probably an older replacement case with the original number restamped. _________________ Chris

What are the casting dates on each case half?
That number looks like a really bad grind-down and restamp.

These numbers on the generator pedestal suggest 18 February 1952, first shift production. |

always thought the 2 means second shift and the 1 indicates it as a 1951 case |

Yes, that could very well be, so perhaps it was a February '51 case, restamped as a February '52. Either way, it does appear to be 25hp. |

volksair is correct! This side of the block was cast on Feb. 2, 1951 on second shift. How much is it worth? It has the wrong number font and sequence. _________________

If the number stamp shown is a KD engine number sequencing (VW exchange engine serial number as suggested by the square stamp) then based upon the list found in the June 2001 VVWCA newsletter it was rebuilt in March 1960. |
