This is my newly acquired 1953 Barndoor! This is a straight-up barn find (field actually) It sat at a farm in the scrap pile for 40 years and almost went to scrap last year. It's amazingly solid and will require very little metal work (for the vehicle).
As you can see I'll be looking for doors, but other than that it's almost complete. There's many little bits, including the original engine tin with the hand crank hole, the hand crank is there also! Original tranny and more. Really excited!

No immediate plans. I’m going to work on finding doors and let the idea that I own one of these soak in! _________________ 1969 Beetle (Sadie)

Congratulations, that is an amazing find. Did you ask the people you bought it from what happened to the two front doors? _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

I did, it’s a bit of a mystery. They went missing sometime in the 70’s
The original owner is still around. He’s in his 80’s, I’m going to try to have a chat with him. _________________ 1969 Beetle (Sadie)

It really is! I’ll post more pics soon. The floor, frame are SOLID. Sitting on the ground you wouldn’t think so. This is my second field-find where I’ve been pleasently surprised. _________________ 1969 Beetle (Sadie)

Very nice score. You may go buy a lotto ticket as you're having some great luck!
It would be interesting if the original owner had some pictures of the bus back in it's glory days. I'd certainly love to have pictures of my personal VW's and their original owners when they were new. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

For sure, Including myself there's been no more than 4 owners. I think it's actually only three including myself. I can't wait to find out the details. There's so much stuff in the bus I feel like I'm going to be posting a lot of pics going "what's this". This feels a lot like archeology! _________________ 1969 Beetle (Sadie)

never throw anything away with Barndoors in the first time !
I nearly dumped a bent accessory backview mirror, but thx to the do-not-throw-away policy kept it in the 53 parts pile. Later on , when I found og vintage B&W pics of the bus, the very distinct mirror arm made proof, that the bus in the pic was definitely the one I own. saving the history of a bus (along with owners pics, stories aso) is as important as saving the vehicles themselves IMHO.
cool and dry bus btw !
When you get to meet the original owner, it would be extremely interesting what his motivation was back then to buy a foreign built van, one that had not been heard of much or wasn't reknown, as we know it today. his firsthand experience would be very interesting. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

you can bolt on post BD front doors until you find matching patina BD front doors, which might take some time to find. _________________ .

Keep in mind that in Canada, practically all cars were foreign built, so it wouldn't be as much of a consideration as you might think.
From my VW hunts in Canada, I've found that areas rich in German heritage were particularly receptive to Volkswagens. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.
