I've heard '65 didn't come with one.
Is that true?
Anybody buy their '65-'67 SO-42 from the original owner & have the manual?
Please post pics of the manual (+ close up of the horse on the reverse).
I have:
one I believe to be the original from a '67 (has writing on the cover I haven't seen on another)
one that was disclosed as reproduction
one that looks just like the reproduction
Top one from the '67
Middle: disclosed as reproduction
Bottom: looks like middle one
Some differences in the horses
The small text on the reverse is more fine than the brighter copy

Here's the complete literature kit out of a one owner 66' SO42 (no other shots of just the SO42 manual):

Looks like the manual I got last year at OCTO is a repro...and I had no idea they even made reproduction versions of these. I thought I scored for $20 |

Can we get a close up of the horse on the reverse?
I noticed the easiest (for me) thing to see that's different between the '67 one... and the other two. See the colored circles and text.
One more batch of differences...

Did you like the "What's Different?" page in Family Circle Magazine? That latest entry is missing the date unlike your OG '67 manual. Still searching for mine...sheesh. |

The nose hole of Bryce's looks more like your 2nd/3rd examples. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Family Circle...
I gave that up & graduated to Where's Waldo?
I did used to play the Memory game a lot though...
I agree... the two on the right look like Bryce's... and the mouth is open the same (different from the 67 one).
What that tells me is the 1967 manual's artwork was re-done... after the earlier manual (that doesn't say Aug. '66 on the front).
So, this tells me the '67 version hasn't been copied.
I'll compare the small text on the reverse when I have a little more time.

Both of those match up with the 67 artwork (no bump, different eye opening). _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Agree.
And on the later ones...
The fourth pointy thing of the mane... down from the top... has a gentle slope. Earlier one (like Bryce's) has more of a sharp angle.
And, the later ones... the bottom lip is almost wanting to pinch up, towards the upper lip. Earlier type looks like you could slip a horse biscuit right in there. _________________ aka: Evan

It also matches earlier Westfalia Logos. The first two are from 1961 Trailer brochure. The last one of a sticker is off a 70's Essen Trailer.
Its funny you guys have honed in on this horse. The market in general perpetuates inaccurate or later versions of this horse as "correct" when buying Westfalia stickers or badges for restoration from 50 to 70's. When I first started to get into Westfalia items, everything I could purchase was wrong. I had to make virtually any sticker I needed to get an accurate reproduction.
Your accurate horsey was used for the longest in the companies history. In all the Westfalia swag Ive seen, it does not change until the late 70's early 80's. Now the company has been bought and sold a couple of times. Had its partnership with VW revoked due to BMW owning them. They have no archive and or museum that I know of thats Westfalia owned or involved in. So getting history from them is nonexistent.
Most presented stickers look like this.
