I bought a VW T2 Berlin 1979 with 2.0L Engine L-Jetronic. GE engine number.
The bus will be imported in Switzerland and I need a Certificate of Conformity, Emission regulations. Where can I get this? Already tried to get this from VW Germany and VW Switzerland but they cannot deliver. Maybe someone with a Bulli with the same engine can sent a copy/phot of his certificate.

Quote:
Certificate of Conformity, Emission regulations

what exactly does that mean? That YOUR specific bus is currently smog legal to SWISS standards before being shipped?

Where did your Bulli come from- e.g., where was it delivered? There should be a tag on the engine that has the certification on it... like this:

It could be on the backside of the engine lid as well:

Here's a thread on 1979 stickers:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8255605

This is USA though... it may not help if your Bulli was originally delivered somewhere else.

Here the M plate.
The vehicle emission label is missing or hidden somewhere, where I cannot find.

Did some reading. You will have your hands full. Good luck. I would ask the seller to start by talking with his DMV to see which Canadian Agency keeps those records and which can issue the letter. VW can issue a COC but their website implies only EU sold vehicles originally. You can also asking there

you are looking for a sticker on the bus like the one on this owner's manual page - it will be the one with the Maple Leaf

That one is in the LH door jamb (or should be), but it's certifying compliance with safety standards, the emissions compliance is on the sticker on the inside of the decklid, like the ones Tram posted.

What part of Canada is Switzerland in? Is it one of the Maritimes I keep hearing about?

If VW won't issue you this certificate your chances of getting a Swiss acceptance are nil. The Swiss put the Z in beauracraZy.

perspective - one of my divisions is a Swiss Engineering firm.

The person who referenced the maple leaf was trying to be helpful. The bus was originally delivered to Canada.

BD, does anyone reproduce the Canadian stickers? That would solve OP's issue.

Waxhead produces a sticker https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1956214 but I don't know if the Canadian version is different. I have a 79 decklid around here somewhere, I'll see if it still has a sticker and what it says.

Yes, that is USA though. Canada will be different AFAIK.

Indeed they are.
There is no sticker on that 79, but I looked at a 77 and the last lines say "This vehicle conforms to CMVS standards for 1977 model year new vehicles".
Now the OP just has to find someone with a Canadian delivered 79 and have Waxhead whip up a sticker.

the one in the book has room for the VIN. Sample certificates online give the VIN also. The problem seems to be two fold - one is finding the info and the other is this was all pre-computerized data so none of the online tools go that far back on VW buses. The US EPA has a page for 1979 VW's but buses are not on it. Everything says contact the manufacturer but he has already done that. If he is still here reading this thread, he might print a copy of that California one and ask if that is "the kind of thing" they are looking for. They may want the actual letter that VW or EPA prints out when requested.

It's a Canadian delivery Bus so the EPA has nothing to do with it.

US EPA indicated on one of their obscure webpages that US 49 state and Canadian vehicles of that era are the North American standard so US EPA can generate a US COC to import a Canadian vehicle to the USA. Whether the Swiss would accept that I don't know. Was just trying to work all angles on this. The OP appears to have disappeared so maybe he got one already.

VW Germany has a COC generating website but it only works for original EU vehicles and not North American. They add that usually the country it is going to will want an inspection anyway. I guess that is like the UK MOT or something like that.

Dear bus owners, I read your comments with great interest. I ordered already two Vehicle Emission information labels. A federal and California one. Thanks for all your input. Really appreciate.
Does anyone now if you can find engine information with the Engine number?
