Decided to sell my custom Harley Davidson and buy a Dune Buggy, since it has been 40 years since my last one. Everything I was looking at was rusted and put together in the most "back yard" fashion. I found one tht caught my eye in Ceres, Calif but needed some work. Well, a lot of work. But it wasn't until we got into it that we found all the rust and that fact the frame had about 2 inches of weld left before it would crack in half. Thus, the build begins. I will get some pictures and if you have some ideas I may have not thought of, feel free to chime in. I can't wait to get it done. And don't let the paint and pics fool you (it did me). When I got to see it, the paint had been rolled on with a interior roller for house paint!!!! It was trashed.

We puled the body off and found more rust than we expected. But the worst part was the frame welds where they put it together. It was a hack job and had cracked all around, except for maybe 2 inches holding the buggy together. We cut it out, made new 1/4 inch plates, got rid of all the rust, and pulled the pans completely. We now have new pans in, undercoating, new painted floors, custom seats and mounts, etc. Feel like at this pace we may have it done in 3 months!!! More pics to follow.

You are totally transforming that buggy. Very impressive! It should be done for the Manx Club run at Lone Pine next October.
They have parking brake brackets you can weld into your tunnel. Also make sure the parking brake cable guide tubes are all in place.

Also while the body is off, make sure the clutch cable guide tube anchor brackets and welds are all solid. Its a lot harder to repair once the body is on.
You should put an adjuster on the end of the shift rod. It makes adjusting your shifter simple and precise. Its the best $10 upgrade you can make |

Just put on the tires and rims to check for fit. Also, used Polaris RZR seats so they would be comfortable and could adjust back and fourth.

What brand/size are the rear tires? On what size rim?
Love the cage reinforcement ad rear bumper, esp the license plate mount.

Cool directional Vee tread pattern on those tires.

Check for arrows on the sidewall, they might need to be changed from side to side. |

And you might get more power if you get ride of those dual trumpets.
But with that fancy rear bumper you might not be able to |

Here are the latest pics. From what was about as much of a basket case to what this will actually be (with all the fabrication), it should be one hot street machine. Stroker motor is being built as we speak!!! This is my new dash and rear enclosure for storage and stereo speakers. Both will be covered with black vinyl to match the seats.

And the exhaust will be built to support the horse power when we get the new motor in. Just need to figure out what works and the look we like. |

Car will be done in about a month. Taken over a year, most items hand built, and will be going to Bug O Rama (I Hope) with it. Pics will come up soon. |

Also, pulled the stock 1600 motor, even though it ran great and has a cam (dual port), but bought a brand new 2110 Stroker Motor to move those rear tires. |
