|
|
I did search....but here we are....
I need to rewire my speedo after 17 years.....turn signal flashes the red bulb/alternator light.....
Do I need to remove the shelf, or remove the speedo....or just contort my body and do the wiring in place.
Thx for any suggestions. |

You likely can do the Speedo with the dash tray installed but it’s 3 screws and you’ll be so much happier fixing it with more space. Ask me how I know… _________________ 1959 Type II Mango SO-23

How do you know ?
Seriously, I've just got one of Speedhut's Classic VW Bus combo units (Speedometer/Tacho) any tips/photos that may help with the swap would be greatly appreciated
I previously had the Speedo in my 65 Beetle refurbished by Thorsten who is here on Samba, and he did an absolutely fantastic job.
But this time I wanted something different for the Bus, so went with the Speedhut unit, as wanted a Tacho, but not on the dash ? or in a little pod under it.
I did ask them if I could have the Gen/Oil lights incorporated like the roughly edited photo below, but they said they were unable to add those, so just bought the standard combo unit

Three screws and two bolts.
its WAY easier to work on that wiring without the tray _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

If you have a lot of work under there and plan to stay for a while there's this approach:
