PPG does not carry or cannot find this color in their system. They say that their VW paint guide skips over this code. Any suggestions for another company to access this color? |

I've had it mixed in PPG's Concept (DCC) before. I'm sure I just used the L345 code. It calls it pale grey instead of light grey. There's another number on the label that may help if you're using their DCC line... DCC32716.

I did try to give them the PPG number 31960 from the archives but again they could not find the color. I will try calling again with the DCC code. Thanks for the tip. |

I posted the light grey L345 paint formula a month or so ago, but it doesn't seem to be in the old post any more Uhhh not sure, Everett ended up posting it for me in a better fashion. Shoot me an email, I can email you a jpeg of it.
I asked the paint guy and he brought it right up. All I told him was L345. _________________ 62 Turkis DC |

I asked my supplier for L345 in concept just last week, they couldn't find it, no surprise. I knew the ppg # was here on the samba archives but didn't pick it up before I went there Usually If I give them a ppg # they do alright, but vw #'s are a foreign language to them. |

here is the PPG DCC (single stage) mix formula:
dmc900 491.7 parts
dmc908 120.0 parts
dmc901 44.6 parts
dmc935 18.6 parts
any ppg store can mix this for you. for those curious, dcc is also known as concept by ppg. dcc is single stage, dbc is base coat |

On a side note relating to paint and the PPG company. If your paint store is having a problem finding a code or can't match a color with their profit system, all they have to do is phone PPG. The PPG lab keeps a huge list of OG colors and will formulate just about anything in any of their products.
Also, as I find paint codes and formulas I add them to a binder that my paint store has started for me. That way the next time I need a color, or someone else is searching, it's as easy as looking it up.

Are there really 2 different colours of L345? My dash seems to be OG paint and looks more beige like the lower portion labelled light grey. I think I prefer the one labelled pale grey though.

Interesting that the samples all refer to it as "L345" and that they codes for PPG and Dupont are the identical numbers, yet they alternately refer to it as "Light Gray" and "Pale Gray". I have always knows L345 as Light Gray, never heard it referred to "Pale Gray" |

Same here and also note my 64 kombi is labelled as light grey, which is not reflected in this chart. But I still wonder if anyone has observed this difference between older and newer cars. _________________ 1964 Kombi- http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=640048
