Never liked the reduced oil capacity of the shortened oil pan on the 2.2 Subaru which I had installed in my '91. It worked well enough for me as I am anal about checking the oil, but last winter I lent the van out to someone who needed a car and they didn't bother to check the oil because it was "too cold" to do so. Eventually they ran it out of oil and I was stuck with a wasted out engine. On putting a replacement engine in I wanted to go back to the stock Subaru oil pan and needed to protect it from rocks and sticks etc so I built this.

Yes it hangs down quite a bit in order to fit over the stock pan, but this is a highway car and I don't intend to do anything worse than dirt roads with it. It is easy enough to get at the drain plug when the plate is installed, but the plate can also be swung down if more access to the plug was wanted for some reason. Takes just minutes to remove and install.

.

Looks good. I've been thinking of building some sort of protection as I'm hesitant to try the shallow oil pans as well. I thought i bottomed out on the oil pan a few weeks ago but turned out it was my rear tow hitch. Does yours attach to the block?

It attaches to the engine mount which of course is attached to the engine.
