Hello Syncro friends!
Our original 2020 adventure was planned to be “Sequoias 2020”, but National Parks is keeping Sequoias on lockout status for camping through September and cancelled our reservation. Our new Plan is to stay at Kodachrome Basin State Park in southwest Utah. This spot is close to Bryce Canyon which is open to day visitors.
Since the change, we’ve had a couple participants drop out and ONE spot is open for you if you want it.
Here’s the new plan… It’s Syncro Safari, Kodachrome 2020
The location is the beautiful Kodachrome Basin State Park in southern Utah, near Bryce Canyon National Park.
More info at: https://www.syncrosafari.org/kodachrome-20---overview.html
Camp Syncro:
Information on the Kodachrome Basin location here:
https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/kodachrome-basin/
I’ve reserved the Oasis Group campsite for us. It has plenty of space for a circle of Syncros while the tables and fire pit are a few steps away. It has water, real restrooms and showers.
Activities:
There are several interesting sites to see and places to go including amazing Bryce Canyon National Park, just 30 minutes away. I have not yet put together the plan for off-road trails, but there are a couple scenic vistas to potentially visit and two slot canyons to explore. One slot canyon is right off a dirt road and the other will require a hike if we want to explore that one. One outing I hope to arrange is for views of Bryce Canyon from trails not normally visited by the public. I expect to arrange three off-road group days and provide for two open recreation days for activates of your choice.
Climate:
Kodachrome is in a warmer area than Sequoias for sure and the ideal time to be there would be earlier in the season, but it’s 5,800ft elevation will help to moderate the heat. Historic climate data says that daytime highs average about 91F and overnight lows about 53F in July with a 24hr average of 72F. I’d expect afternoon temperatures to range through the upper 80s during our stay. I’d expect clear skies and low chance of rain.
Other sites in the region:
Here are some other interesting sites in the region you might consider visiting during your trip, but it won’t be part of a planned group trip.
Zion National Park is about 2 hours southwest.
Capitol Reef National Park is about 2.5 hours north.
Cedar Breaks National Monument is about 1.5 hours west.
Dates:
There are no changes in the dates from what we’d planned for Sequoias.
Arrival date: Sunday, July 12
Departure: Saturday. July 18
Costs:
The cost is $105/van, regardless of the number of adventurers.
What to do now:
Please let me know (email below) as soon you can if you’d like the last remaining spot for Kodachrome 2020 ASAP.
I’d like to know ASAP so that I can let other Syncronauts know there is a space open and invite them for this new trip.
I’d be happy to chat by phone too, but contact me via email first.
Hope to see you in Kodachrome!
Jim & Deanne Davis

A few weeks ago we had our annual Syncro Safari adventure in southwest Utah and based our week of outings from Kodachrome Basin State Park.
The Syncro Safari website will get updated one of these days with more content and photos from this trip, but I'm very happy to have a video of the trip made by Ron Chandler who was able to participate this year.
Hope you enjoy the video!

Outstanding video, thanks for posting it (and much thanks to Ron for assembling it).
I showed the video to my wife and her first comment while watching it was "Can we join them on a future trip?", so I think you'll probably have some new participants for next year's safari. _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")
